General Propane FAQs

Propane is a byproduct of natural gas production and crude oil refining. During these processes, it’s separated out and stored as a liquid under pressure. When put to use, it converts to a gas that burns cleanly for heat and energy.

Just about everything. Propane is an extremely versatile fuel with a long list of residential and commercial applications, including home heating, hot water, cooking, backup generators, clothes drying, forklift fueling, and powering commercial equipment, including Autogas applications.

Look for your propane gauge at the top of your tank, under a protective dome. The circular dial typically ranges from 0 to 95, and the number the needle points to is your fuel level as a percentage. If the dial reads 50, your tank is 50% full. We recommend placing your order when your tank reads 20-30% full to avoid a potential runout.

Want to skip gauge-checking altogether? Enrolling in automatic delivery is one of the best ways to keep your tank supplied.

Propane expands and contracts with temperature changes, so tanks are considered full at 80% to leave safe room for that movement.

LPG, short for liquefied petroleum gas, is a family of gases that can be stored as liquid under pressure. Propane belongs to that family, so all propane is LPG, but not all LPG is propane.

They’re the same fuel; the name just changes with the job. We say Autogas when propane fuels on-road vehicles like school buses, delivery vans, and municipal fleets. For everything else, like home heating, cooking, and equipment, it’s simply propane.
